Lady Lopes Secure First Win and Achieve .500 Record in Peach Springs Seligman High School – The Seligman Lady Lopes experienced a triumphant weekend in Peach Springs, securing their first win of the season and achieving a commendable .500 record. The journey was not without its challenges, but the teams persevered, and adjustments were made for a promising future. The Black team faced obstacles in their initial matchups, tying their first game and losing the subsequent two. Coach Figueroa candidly addressed the challenges, stating, “I failed to put the girls in the best position to win. I will make the proper adjustments to ensure they receive the coaching they deserve.” Notably, 5th grader Kiara M. led the team on offense, showcasing versatility and a commitment to playing team basketball. Elsie A., a standout defensive player, exhibited unwavering dedication and a willingness to sacrifice for the team. A surprise standout was Jayde A., who, despite starting with only the basics, has rapidly absorbed coaching and implemented it on the court. Coach Figueroa commended her in saying, “Jayde knew nothing but the absolute basics when we first started, but she’s been a sponge. She always has a question and an answer, but takes anything that I say or show and puts it into action.” Contributions from Mahlee T., Alazalea S., Zendya A., Corah A., and Kayde B. played a crucial role in providing support and valuable minutes. Coach Figueroa acknowledged the challenge of coaching a team where any player can perform exceptionally, emphasizing the need to keep it fair to prevent boredom. Looking ahead, the Lady Lopes return home for another tough scheduling situation, defending the gym on November 17th. Coach Figueroa expressed optimism, stating, “The schedule has been tough this season, but the girls have always fought hard. I believe that if I make a few adjustments, people are going to see a different team than they saw the last time we were at home.” The White team achieved a 1-1 record, securing the Lady Lopes’ first win of the season. Coach Figueroa praised the team’s defensive adjustments after the initial loss and highlighted improved offensive and defensive strategies. Notably, Haleigh S., Jaleigha R., and Alyssa C. led the team offensively, showcasing exceptional ball movement and offensive rebounding. The Lady Lopes are on a promising trajectory, with Coach Figueroa expressing confidence in the team’s newfound success. He emphasized the importance of self-reflection, stating, “I have such a hard time pointing out specific players who stand out. To a player, anything I ask them to do, they do.” As the season progresses, the Lady Lopes are poised for further success, with Coach Figueroa’s adjustments proving pivotal in their recent triumphs.

Middle school girls travel to Chino Valley on Friday, Nov 3, 2023. high school boys and girls start their basketball practices from 3-6pm. I want to Thank Monica for all her help in controlling the kids at the middle school games on Friday, which is not her job. She ended up taking the decorations down so they wouldn't keep pulling them off. Our kids and other kids were out of control and no one to monitor or supervise them. I was keeping the official book and could only check on them once in awhile. I will talk to Tyson the coach on Monday to remind him he is in charge of the team at all times. They tore down all the decorations and pulled off the balloons that I TOOK away ..they were wrestling in the students lounge and Mandi had to run them off. Thank you
